Reading the real signal of coach interest

How to tell genuine interest from a polite mailing list.

Coaches send a lot of mail. Not all of it means anything. The signal isn't the camp invite — it's the relationship that follows. Real interest looks like personalized contact (your athlete's name, position, film moments), repeated touchpoints from the same coach, and a clear next step (visit, evaluation, conversation). Generic mail and bulk camp invites are marketing, not recruitment. When in doubt, ask. A direct question — "Where do I sit on your board for the 2026 class?" — is appropriate from a junior or senior. Coaches who are interested will answer. Coaches who aren't will either dodge or be honest. Both answers help you.
